[This year we have two very special deals for you for the start of the holiday season because we know how much you love them.
The first is a Black Friday special that will let you take 40% off any of our subscriptions when you use the coupon "blackfriday". This coupon will be available for the next 24 hours or so so you need to be quick if you want to grab this one.
Also if you have signed up in the last few days let me know via the contact form and I will add the equivalent amount of time to your subscription - I hate to see folks missing out on deals.
The other deal is a new initiative for us. We have teamed up with some good Joomla friends to create what we are calling the Site Builders Kit.
So on Monday Joomlabamboo, Anything Digital (makers of sh404) and Os Training are going to be offering a very special deal for Joomla site developers and builders alike. It's a bit of a taste test of all three of our services but I can't tell you much more than that at this stage.
Stay tune for the announcement on Monday.
Last year I mentioned that my favourite online T shirt supplier was doing the Black Friday thing and I'm excited to say that they are doing it again this year too all with a spanking new design. So you can get some beautiful type inspired T-shirts for 20% off and for each item purchase Ugmonk are giving three meals to the Rice Bowl charity. I'm off to get my yearly fill of t-shirts.
Enjoy!

I've received this odd error a few times now as I start to move some of our older non Joomla 3 templates from Joomla 2.5 to Joomla 3. Despite the fact that Joomla 3.2 is well and truly out, the updater tells me that I have the latest version of Joomla.
This usually happens when the Joomla updater is set to look for releases only in the long term stable stream. Joomla 2.5 is the current long term stable release and it will remain the case until Joomla 3.5 is released.
So even after I switch the Joomla updater to look for the short term releases (ie Joomla 3+) it still tries to assure me that I have the latest version.
Fortunately the issue is easily solved with a slight detour from the main Joomla update component to the update manager in the extension manager.
Now if you are like me, even after this update you may get a blank screen but fortunately this is also easily solved. Check out the How to Joomla post I published last week about how to solve a blank screen after updating to Joomla 3.2.

One of the best features added to the recently released Joomla 3.2 is the Install from web feature. Other CMS's like Wordpress have had something like this for some time of course, but this addition is feature rich and more importantly easy to use.
The Install from Web tab in the Joomla installer draws in listings from the Joomla Extension directory and displays them in a easy to use interface in the Joomla administrator. You can sort the listing by popularity, rating, name, updated or newest ordering, find the extension you want to install and install it with a few mouse clicks.
Our free extensions including JB Type, Fitvids, jFlickr, Hoverbox and Captify Content are now all compatible with the Install from web feature and can be installed on your site with a few clicks in your Joomla 3.2 site admin. There are currently some pull requests in the Joomla CMS repo that will make it easier to list commercial listings and as soon as those changes are made we will also make the Zentools module available via this method.

In the process of updating some of our Joomla template packages from Joomla 2.5 to Joomla 3.2, I've just come across an easily circumvented bug during the update process.
The error occurs during the installation of the Joomla 3.2 via the Joomla Update component and ends in the user being presented with a blank screen. In most cases a blank screen means that there is a php error and because error reporting is set to default the error is not displayed on the screen and so all we see is a blank screen.

Last year we released a small add on service for our users that allowed us to provide help for issues that are outside of the scope of our normal Joomla template and extension support. Up until now we offered one hour and four blocks of time and now I am happy to say that we are also offering a half hour block of custom support time.
The half hour block of time is designed to fit the occasional small issue that might pop up that is outside of your current skillset. Services that might come under the half hour block are:

It's been a while since we sent out a survey to our users, so in the spirit of taking stock as the year starts to draw to a close, I've just published the 5 minutes for 1 month survey.
We love receiving feedback from our users, so in exchange for five minutes of your time, we will add a month to your template subscription. Simple.
Once we have processed the survey we will automatically add the month to your subscription.
Please note that this offer apples to existing or previous members of the club. If your subscription has expired simply fill out the form and we will reinstate your accoutn with the bonus month's worth of access.
Thanks for helping us make Joomlabamboo better.

As promised when we released the Ignite template last week, we have now made an small update which adds support for Virtuemart.
The Virtuemart display is not exactly the same as Hika shop but it's very close. So if you must use Virtuemart then our latest clean shopping template may well fit the bill.
Please also note that there is an extra step when using the theme with Virtuemart. But don't worry we have outlined exactly how to go about the process over on the Ignite documentation page.
If you missed the announcement for the Hikashop and now Virtuemart template last week you can read the blog post announcing the release, view the features page or perhaps check out the demo.

You may have seen the announcement that Joomla 3.2 is now available and from the looks of the feature list, it looks like it's an excellent update to an already great version.
If you are using T3 and Zentools then you need to update to the latest versions of T3 and zentools for a few key compatibility fixes in the plugin and the module. You can grab the updates from the links below.
You can find the official announcement of Joomla 3.2 on the main Joomla.org site. In a nutshell the update adds the following key features:

We will also be releasing a Virtuemart theme suited for Ignite but I wanted to release this earlier so you could see the full glory.

This is the first time I've worked with Hikashop and I must say it was a really very good experience. The workflow, flexibility and functionality in the free version of the extension seemed to be really well thoughtout and easy to follow. The Pro version looks even more feature rich so I guess you need to really need to make the decision on which version to use based on your project. Checkout the comparison table here.

A little over a week ago I announced that I was giving away two invites to Dribbble and I got a fantastic response.
It was tough making the choice ... So without further ado, the winners are ...
Updated. Looks like I was a little slow and both Alex and Florian have picked up invites already.

As a show of solidarity for our brother and sister developers in the United States I've just released a coupon to help ease some of the pain and uncertainty of the US government shutdown.
If you use the coupon "noshutdown" you will get 35% off any of our subscriptions. The coupon will expire on Tuesday next week.
If you happened to subscribe this week - from Monday - I will add some extra time to your sub to make up for missing the coupon. Juset send me a contact email or create a ticket and I will adjust your account.
Psst ... if you are not in the United States you can use this coupon too.

If running a business has taught me anything, it's taught me that it's important to be flexible.
A few months ago I announced the retirement of the lifetime developer subscription and the start of a new 3 year developer option. In the time since then I've had numerous requests to reopen the lifetime sub and very little interest in the 3 year plan.
As I mentioned, running a business has taught me to be flexible and open to change, so in response to this "new life lesson" I am announcing the resurrection of the lifetime subscription.
