After a little bit of a hiatus from our Joomla 1.7 template release schedule, I am very happy to announce the availability of the Grid2 Joomla 1.7 Template. If you are unfamiliar with Grid2 you can see the template overview or the live demo.

We released Grid2 back in June 2010 as a follow up to the original Grid template and it's been a massively popular template for photographers, artists and pretty much anyone who liked the display of the grid layout on the front page.

The Joomla 1.7 version of Grid2 will also work on Joomla 1.6 if you haven't updated yet - but I would highly recommend updating to Joomla 1.7 as soon as possible as there was a security issue associated with the leap from Joomla 1.6 to 1.7.

Also for those familiar with the Joomla 1.5 version of the Grid2 Template, there is a small change in behaviour with the Joomla 1.7 version. The main difference is that we have removed the options to create customisations of the template styles in the template administrator. The styling can as per usual be controlled via the hilite css files but there is no longer the option of setting the various elements in the template admin as there was in the Joomla 1.5 version.

We plan to reimplement some of these features in the next version of the framework, which should have a beta release early next week, but in the meantime if you need to customise the template you will need to get your hands dirty and dig into the css.

You can find out more about working with the Grid2 Joomla template in the Grid2 knowledgebase article.
