One of the great additions to Joomla 2.5 was the Joomla update component. In the process of updating our older themes to Joomla 3 templates I have discovered that the update process can often go awry due to changes in the database from Joomla 2.5 to Joomla 3.

Thankfully this is an easy thing to circumvent if you use the database fix tool first.

Last year I wrote about how I'd been somewhat of a recluse when it came to getting out of the office and going to meet other Joomla folk at Joomladays or user groups, but since last year's Joomladay Sydney, that's changed a lot.

It was great to meet folks in real life that I'd only ever skyped or tweeted with and so I am very much looking forward to meeting them and also some new folks in a couple of weeks for Joomladay Sydney, on October 19th to 20th.

Zen Grid Bridge based theme, there was one part of the process that I had a tiny blindspot with - Bootstrap.

The truth is that one of the biggest issues with porting old themes to Joomla 3 is bootstrap. I know there are some Joomla 3 templates that are completely bootstrap-less but that seems like a mis-step given that Joomla is built on a bootstrap foundation.

So after a fair amount of discussion ... I am happy to say that the Joomla 3 version of Corporate and Ascent are now bootstrap compatible.

[One of our most popular Joomla business templates is now available for Joomla 3. It uses the new bridge framework I announced a few weeks ago with a new an improved version that provides better support for Bootstrap using LESS.

The Corporate Joomla template theme was one of our first business focussed responsive templates. It features a full width background slideshow with a pixelated overlay, some sharp lines and a ton of white space.

Upgrading from an old version of Corporate?

While we work on the documentation for the Joomla 3 version take some time to look through the using a Zen Grid Bridge template documentation for an understanding of what's changed between Joomla 2.5 and Joomla 3 and how to move an existing site to Joomla 3.

If you are using the Corporate template for the first time then you can just go straight ahead and install it.

Updating your own website when you are a developer is akin to a plumber fixing a leaking tap - it never gets done. Well that's a broad generalisation but you get what I mean.

I've wanted to update the Joomlabamboo network of sites to Joomla 2.5 and then Joomla 3 for a very long time and I am happy to say that this blog is now running on Joomla 3.

Moving to J3 was literally done over the weekend just gone (fun times!) and would have been much faster had I not entertained the idea of a redesign as well. There are a few design tweaks here and there but compared with the ideas I had floating around during the migration process this is much more a realignment than a redesign.

Last week I spent some time giving the Zentools demo site a little refresh and along with this update to the extension, the demo site and the documentation I am excited to say that we have a new product line available.

Introducing Zentools stand alone

The Zentools module has long been a favourite amongst our members and for some time now I have wanted to de-couple it from our club system and make it available as a stand alone purchase. And so now it is ... Zentools can be yours for $30 AUD with 12 months worth of updates.

Purchase Zentools

New to Zentools?

zentoolsblog

If you are new to Zentools then let me explain a little about what this multi-purpose module can do.

Zentools was first created a few years ago when we started creating our line of responsive Joomla templates. It has essentially been our responsive powerhouse adding the much needed responsive capability to our themes via slideshows, carousels, grids, lists etc.

There are a total of 8 different layout types available, with three discrete content sources including Joomla, K2 and images from a folder on your server. It also has a beautiful responsive lightbox and an intelligent and dynamic drag and drop administrator area which makes creating complex content layouts in your modules a breeze.

Check out the Zentools demo site for a full run down on the layouts, features and documentation.

Portal pushed our responsive Joomla template count above the 30 template mark and as of now we have a total of 33 responsive templates available to download.

So this post is really just a little trip down memory lane to see the breadth and variety of designs that we have created since the Focus template we release way back in September 2011.

Where to from here?

So after looking through this post it begs the question - what kind of designs do you want to see? Which third party extensions would you like us to support? Help us to guide the design of the next 30 Joomla templates.

And without further ado ... 33 Responsive Joomla templates.

And before you ask about my math ... the Zen Building Block templates are a pack of five templates :)

The 3 Year developer plan

page.title

A few weeks ago I announced that we were retiring the lifetime developer plan and would soon be introducing a new plan to the Joomlabamboo subscription options. It's taken a little longer for me to decide on the featureset of the new plan but the delay gave some lucky users the chance to take up the lifetime plan before it was unpublished.

So without further ado I would like to introduce the 3 Year developer plan.

The 3 Year developer plan is a pretty incredible deal (even if I do say so myself). It's priced at a lower price point than the lifetime developer and is essentially the equivalent of paying for 2 years at the full 12 month developer price.

In other words you get 3 years for the price of 2.

It's beautifully crafted post-folk, post-indie (genres are useless) mix of guitar, cello, keyboard and vocals. I especially love the film clip to Keep your head up. I had a sneaking suspicion it would feature hay bales - just had no idea they would be used like that.
